Dr. Nicole Rawls

My name is Dr. Nicole Rawls and I am a storyteller who comes from a line of storytellers who weave and tell stories in many different ways. As an anthropologist, astrologer and artist, I draw on ethnography, structural analysis, astrology, and creative practices to examine and explore a central question that sits at the heart of my work:

What does it mean to be human outside the colonial project?

I help individuals and organizations navigate the life-death cycle of societal and organizational transitions. In that process, I help people center their humanity through the body and use that embodied knowledge lens to imagine and build more humane structures and systems within the institutions they inhabit.

As an Organizational Death Doula, Cultural Strategist, and StoryWeaver my work spans across organizational and political strategy, leadership advising, ethnographic research, facilitation, cultural assessment, and storytelling. My approach is grounded in over 20 years of experience working across institutions, within communities, and through creative spaces.

At the heart of my practice is Embodied Strategic Dreaming™, a praxis-based methodology I developed to help people turn towards and learn how to work with their first technology - the body - as a way of navigating change. It is a way to work with change instead of relying upon prescribed steps that are resistant to it.

I am the founder of the Embodied Futures Lab and I am also currently completing my first book, Embodied Strategic Dreaming: Parables of a Journey to Self.

AUGUST CALENDAR OF EVENTS

It is time to tell new stories so we can create the futures we say we want. So it is a time of the storytellers and story weavers to tell and weave new stories for our humanity.

To tell new stories we need to embody our humanity and believe the reality we are in so we can dream and create the societies that can actually hold and support life.

How do we learn to embody the knowledge we have learned?

What does it mean to strategically dream as a way to world-build the societies we say we want to live in?

Can we allow ourselves to play in the dreamscape(s) and bring those dreams into reality?

If we are our ancestors’ wildest dreams, how do we dream WITH them as a liberatory practice?

These are some of the questions I explore in my Patreon, the online arm of my Embodied Futures Lab, as a way to create a space for people to imagine our world differently and then dare to bring those imaginations into reality.

August 23rd-29th:

Black Astrologers Gettin Free by Cultivating Community Convo

Grab your coffee, grab your tea, grab your weed, grab whatever you need and lets get into the forecast this week.  We got a lunar eclipse this week in the sign of Pisces, meaning it is full moon on the horizon. What is being illuminated from the deep waters that require the examination of your faith system? See, it’s been a weird ass time as we are facing a crisis of faith in society. Who do you believe? Why? Does the logic add up? Opposite Pisces sits Virgo, the Earth mutable sign that has been asking us to assess if we have digested is truly nourishing. Cause we cannot feed off of dead things, so what happens when the logics and faithe systems we have depended upon no longer can sustain us? Well the discipline of astrology is getting a taste of this as the past month or so has seen nonstop conversations on race, nation, methods, and origin stories after an elder in the community, Steven Forrest, revealed more of his own belief systems that influence his teachings and philosophy.  Those beliefs are based in colonial logics disguised as universal laws. But it is about more than Steven, for he is an archetype of the white patriarch who claims moral authority but in reality has no legs to stand on once it is shown the Emperor has no clothes. The south node in Leo is loud and roaring. So if it is time for the fall of kings, who takes their place? What stories must be co-created to lay the foundations of new belief systems and logic systems that are sustaining for our human bodies and societies? Well today I am joined by three other Black women astrologers - Ayla, Pam Awesome and Diana Vanessa, to get into this and more as we talk about how we work with astrology to help us get free in times of social unrest where we are being asked to create new futures in the present.

This is the weekly forecast for August 23rd-29th: Full Moon in Pisces - Black astrologers getting free by cultivating community

Welcome back to Yappin' with the Stars, the show where I talk about what it means, and takes, for us to become human once again in a world that is tryin to convince us all this is it.

And it is not.

So, lets talk with the cosmos and see what else is possible.

I'm your host and guide, Nicole Rawls — a storyteller who comes from a line of storytellers who weave and tell stories in many different ways, and as an anthropologist, astrologer and artist I work with astrology and ethnography to explore the stories of what it means for us to be human. Cause right now the present is up for grabs, so who is leading the stories that will bring us into our futures?

Every Sunday, we check into the chaos we call society and ask:
What's the cosmos showing us this week?
Where are we being called to move, create, burn, build, OR reflect on.

For new beginnings to emerge, space must be made. Which means endings have to be honored. My work helps individuals and organizations move through this death process as a way to create new life.

I am an Organizational Death Doula, Cultural Strategist, Anthropologist, and Storyweaver. My work is for leaders, visionaries, artists, and/or organizations who understand that the present is up for grabs, and you/they want to be the ones leading the stories which will lay the foundations for the systems and structures that create our futures.

Using my praxis-based methodology “Embodied Strategic Dreaming” - which integrates structural analysis, embodied intelligence, and cultural context - I help you see the crossroads you are at as an opportunity to write your own story and enact it.

If you are ready and have a budget for 1-on-1 strategic work, book a consultation call and let's begin.

Note: I do not offer a sliding scale or barter for 1-on-1 services at this time.
